Dr. Elias Knubben is Vice President and Head of Corporate Research and Innovation. This area includes research and advanced development for automation solutions in the field of factory and process automation.
This also includes the Future Concepts, which deal with levitation under the brand SupraMotion, as well as the biology inspired projects of Festo's Bionic Learning Network.
Since the founding of the Bionic Learning Network in 2006, he has been commissioned as an industrial designer to design and develop prototypes and, since 2012, as Head of Corporate Bionic Projects responsible for conception and project management.
In the Bionic Learning Network, an association of Festo with renowned universities, institutes and
development companies, natural principles provide new impulses for technical applications and
industrial practice.
Numerous projects that have emerged from this have been awarded innovation and/or design prizes, such as IF Gold Awards, and have been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, among others.
After his apprenticeship as a metalworker with the steel sculptor Prof. Erich Hauser, he studied industrial design at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and received his doctorate from
Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart under Prof. Werner Sobek.
