Prof. Dr. Michael Capone, Executive Director for Digital Transformation at EY, has 20 years of experience with Internet-of-Things. As a psychology researcher at the University California of San Diego in the 1990´s, he developed one of the first IoT solutions for the healthcare field using wearable devices to monitor the mental health of patients. IoT and Big Data Analytics enabled Capone to capture and analyze data from thousands of patients simultaneously and conduct some of the world´s largest studies in mental health. In 2005, Capone was named Professor of Customer Relationship Management at San Diego State University, where he adapted his approach to monitor consumer behavior. His now patented IoT system is used by retailers, entertainment companies, travel companies, and security agencies around the world. Capone moved with his family from San Diego to Hamburg in 2011 and has worked since then as a researcher and technology consultant. Capone is not a techie, but an avid tech user. As Executive Director for Digital Transformation at EY, he champions the company´s cross-domain consulting approach. Capone has published numerous academic papers on behavior and technology, and his recent book titled “Viral” received the Kennedy Book Prize in March 2017.
